Subtle Facial Balancing: Enhancing Your Natural Beauty Without the Overdone

Hey, Yall! Dr. Wright here… I feel like lots of people are getting facial balancing, but I only see a little bit of it on the web. Most of the posts and information are coming from various injectors and let’s face it, most are over done!

If you know me, you know I can’t stand that overly filled look. I am not over filled, but I have had facial balancing done. In my opinion, facial balancing should enhance your beauty and be completely undetectable. Your friends will notice, but they should have a very hard time putting their finger on what is different. You should look like you! Maybe a more rested you that has been eating well and taking a supplement… they will be wondering what supplement you started because they want a year supply ASAP. I will leave it up to you if you are going to spill the tea or gate keep your secret. I wrote a little cheat sheet for facial balancing below and I created a package for facial balancing to help make it more approachable. I hope this helps!

Facial balancing, also known as facial harmonization or facial contouring, is a cosmetic approach designed to enhance the symmetry and proportionality of a person’s facial features. The goal is to create a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing appearance by adjusting specific areas of the face to complement each other better.

Facial balancing can involve various non-surgical treatments, such as dermal fillers, Botox, or other injectables, to address areas like the chin, jawline, cheeks, nose, and lips. For example:
Chin and Jawline Enhancement: Dermal fillers may be used to enhance the chin and jawline, making them more prominent or defined, which can improve the overall facial profile. We like Sculptra for the jawline and dermal fillers for the chin.
Cheek Augmentation: Fillers or biostimulators like Sculptra can be used to add volume to the cheeks, enhancing their contour and creating a more youthful appearance.
Lip Enhancement: Fillers may be applied to enhance the shape, size, or symmetry of the lips, making them more proportional to the rest of the face. Chin filler can really make your lips look more proportional too.
Sculptra: This biostimulator can be used for volume loss in the cheeks, jawline, those hollows below the cheeks, and temples. We don’t do Sculptra around the mouth. Combining this with dermal fillers gives you the best outcomes.

The process of facial balancing is typically customized to the individual, with the goal of enhancing their natural beauty rather than altering their appearance dramatically. It’s often chosen by people looking for subtle improvements or corrections to their facial features.

At Rejuvenate Austin we offer Complimentary Consultations to learn and to see if Facial balancing is right for you!

Why You Can't Afford to Skimp on Med Spa Services

Investing in quality medical spa services may seem unnecessary, but it is an investment in your overall health and well-being. Medical spa treatments offer a wide range of benefits, from improving the appearance of your skin, hair, and nails to providing relaxation and stress relief. Whether you want to address specific concerns or enhance your natural beauty, medical spa services can help you achieve your goals. It is important to invest in quality medical spa services for several reasons.

First, medical spas offer treatments by licensed medical professionals, such as dermatologists or plastic surgeons. These professionals have the training and expertise to provide safe and effective treatments that can improve the health and appearance of your skin, hair, and nails. They can also offer personalized recommendations and treatment plans based on your specific needs and goals.

Second, medical spa treatments can address many concerns, such as acne, aging, and sun damage. For example, chemical peels can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while laser hair removal can permanently reduce unwanted hair. Medical spa treatments can also help improve your skin’s overall health and appearance, making it look more youthful and radiant.

Third, many medical spa treatments are non-invasive or minimally invasive, meaning they do not require surgery or a long recovery. This can make them an excellent option for those who want to improve their appearance without the risks and downtime associated with more invasive procedures. Who wants the hassle that comes with surgery and the possibility of pain?

Fourth, investing in regular medical spa treatments can help prevent future skin problems and save you money in the long run. For example, regular facials can help keep your skin clean and clear, avoiding the need for more expensive acne treatments down the line.

While it may be tempting to skimp on medical spa services to save money, it is important to remember that these treatments can significantly impact your health and appearance. By investing in quality medical spa services, you can improve your skin, hair, and nails and feel confident in your appearance.

Fifth, medical spa treatments can also provide relaxation and stress relief. Many medical spa treatments, such as massages, facials, and body wraps, are designed to promote relaxation and reduce stress. This can help improve your overall mental and emotional well-being, as well as your physical health.

Sixth, medical spa treatments can also boost your self-esteem and confidence. When you look and feel your best, you are more likely to feel confident and self-assured, which can positively impact your personal and professional life.

Lastly, investing in your health, beauty, and well-being is always better than risking your health to save a few dollars. When you skimp on medical spa services, you may not get the best quality treatments, leading to negative results and complications. On the other hand, when you invest in quality medical spa services, you can trust that you are getting the best care and treatments available.

In conclusion, skimping on medical spa services may save you money in the short term, but in the long run, it can lead to more severe skin problems, and negative results, that would be much more expensive to treat. There are many good reasons to invest in quality medical spa services. Licensed medical professionals perform them, they can address a wide range of concerns, they are often non-invasive or minimally invasive, they can help prevent future skin problems, they can provide relaxation and stress relief, they can boost self-esteem and confidence, and investing in your health, beauty, and well-being is always a good idea. Medical spa services provide safe and effective treatments that can improve the health and appearance of your skin, hair, and nails, which is worth investing in. Investing in your health, beauty, and well-being is always better than risking your health to save a few dollars. Remember, your health, beauty, and well-being are worth investing in.

READ REVIEWS

The first step I suggest to folks who are not sure where to start on their journey to find a med spa is to research. Take a look at multiple med spas in the area and read their reviews on Yelp, Google, Facebook, as well as, check out their Instagram feed for valuable information. How does the business activity respond to positive and/or negative reviews? Does the business address negative reviews? Are they empathetic towards a poor experience? Typically reviews are a smart way to get an overall impression of consumer’s experiences. Instagram also offers before/after images showing off their work!
Take reviews with a grain of salt, but my recommendation is to observe how the business handles the responses. A strong, healthy establishment will be able to show off positive reviews, as well as, appropriately handle and respond to negative reviews.

KNOW WHO IS OPERATING AND OVERSEEING THE SERVICES THE MED SPA IS PROVIDING

As the owner and operator of Rejuvenate Austin, to me, I believe in medical professionals being onsite and overseeing all medical procedures. Because myself, Dr. Jessica Wright, MD, or my Physician’s Assistant, Dana Kirk, is on sight at all times, we are able to see and treat all of our patients whether they are first-time or long-term patients that we have seen throughout the years. A Doctor or Physician’s Assistant is present for every procedure, every step of the way. For example, if you are receiving Botox, customers should be seeing a Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant for the procedure. If you are receiving Laser Hair Removal, customers can see an Esthetician after being cleared for the procedure by the Doctor or Physician’s Assistant onsight.

BE COMFORTABLE ASKING QUESTIONS

Before consenting to someone performing procedures on your person, make sure to ask questions to who is performing your service! The medical industry has a lot of different names and credentials that indicate certain licenses for procedures. Let’s run through who you will typically run into at a medical spa. There are licensed professionals who have “prescriptive authority,” meaning they are able to prescribe procedures like Botox. These professionals include Physician’s Assistants (PA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Doctor of Medicine (MD), and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Other licensed professionals in the med spa could be a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Vocational Nurse (LDM), or Esthetician. Therefore, it is important to ask if you are seeing a PA or an MD for injectables or implantables.

WHAT DOES THE SPA LOOK AND FEEL LIKE

Med spas were created to give more a spa-like experience in a medical environment. I needed Rejuvenate Austin to be functional and private for our customers, as well as, safe and sterile for our employees. I am also invested in educationally and financially in the technology we offer in our med spa. For example, the Laser Hair Removal machine I purchased can treat all skin types, which is not possible in every med spa. These specific capabilities were important to me because it allows our med spa to treat all skin types and all ethnicities.
We also worked really hard on an aesthetically pleasing, warming space that creates strong, positive energy when you walk into the spa. We included trendy art pieces, comfortable seating, bright rooms, and state of the art technology.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN YOUR MEDICAL CONSULTATION?

A medical consultation with an MD or PA is one of the most important pieces of your med spa visit. I emphasize this because a medical clearance is more than just a quick run over of your outer appearance. We spend at least half an hour gathering information to create a holistic view of each patient. We review current medications, life circumstances, chronic illnesses and so much more to develop a cohesive, structured plan. Not only do we create trust in this consultation with each patient who walks through our doors, but it gives an ample amount of time to answer questions and discuss desired results with me! For example, when meeting with a patient regarding Botox, muscle strength is a huge determiner for dosage, so I spend time evaluating all of these aspects before customizing their plan. Make sure you receive an extensive consultation before you get anything procedure done!

We understand that not everyone knows the 4-1-1 on Medspas, so we decided we’d share a few of the most common misconceptions about Medspas and debunk all the rumors!⁣ ⁣

Misconception 1 —⁣ 👉🏼 A Medspa is a spa⁣ ⁣
Truth is Medspas are actually Medical Practices, just like any other doctor’s office where you would go for Medical treatments.⁣ ⁣

Misconception 2 —⁣ 👉🏼 It’s okay to be treated without seeing a Doctor, Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner⁣ first. ⁣
Again, going back to Medspas being Medical Practices. All services that are medical procedures and require a prescription, the patient must be seen by someone with prescriptive authority prior to treatment. You probably wouldn’t go to your OBGYN and have the office manager do the exam. ⁣

Misconception 3 —⁣ 👉🏼 Non-invasive treatments are not Medical procedures⁣.
The use of any FDA approved medical devices and/or medications make the treatment a medical procedure… Yup, that includes cool sculpting and skin pen micro-needling!⁣

[While we’re on the train of misconceptions, we thought we’d throw these ones in too.]⁣ ⁣

Misconception 4 —⁣ 👉🏼 Getting Botox and/or Filler will immediately make you look “overdone.”
At Rejuvenate Austin, we believe injectables should be undetectable. ⁣

Misconception 5 —⁣ 👉🏼 Getting preventative Botox will cause your face to sag as you age⁣.
This is SO untrue! The muscles used for facial expression DO NOT structurally support the skin. The SMAS (Superficial muscular aponeurotic system) is a large portion of the structural support for the skin. The SMAS is not affected by Botox, and the other factor is how much collagen and elastin is in the skin.⁣ ⁣

Dr. Jessica Wright

With so many medical options out there, it may feel overwhelming when you choose your Medical Spa or Botox doctor.

Safety

First and foremost, safety should be your number one driving force and results should be a close second. It is always good to check reviews to give you an idea of how the business treats its clients and you may get some information on their outcomes. However, reviews cannot give you a lot of information about safety. It is imperative that you see a physician during or before your treatment. Medical spa treatments are medical procedures and should be directly supervised by a physician. In the State of Texas, it is the law that a medical spa must be owned by a doctor. This is not well enforced and many break the law without much consequence. It is always a good idea to keep yourself safe in a doctor’s office.

Now let’s go over the biggest reason you need to be in a doctor’s care. Your risk of major complications will be lower. In addition, in the event of a complication, a doctor is readily available. I can assure you an aesthetician will not likely know how to treat an embolized (blocked) artery in a timely fashion. Time is of the essence when you have an arterial occlusion from dermal fillers. The diagnosis has to be made quickly and the treatment must be rendered in minutes. Without a physician’s input, this would be a stretch. It is always great when the physician is readily available. Often policies and procedures are in place at a doctor’s office that will protect you in the event of a bad outcome.

Currently, at Rejuvenate Austin, I do all of the Dermal Fillers. I am very aware of the signs and symptoms of arterial occlusion, among other diagnoses that need to be made quickly. I think it is fabulous if you can have a physician do your injections. Many nurses do great injections as well, but just be sure the doctor is close by.

Consultations

Rejuvenate Austin OfficeAfter weeding out the unsafe options, it is time to choose the medical spa that is the best fit for your needs. Go to several consultations before you choose unless you are wowed right at the beginning. Everyone has a different idea of what aesthetic is beautiful and appropriate. Some like a lot of Botox and dermal fillers, others like a more natural look. Although there is no wrong way, I am very partial to natural-looking results. I would rather your friends not know what you had done. I want them to say “Wow! You look great… Are you resting more?” You should look at a better version of yourself or a younger version of yourself. This is entirely my opinion.

I will never judge someone who wants to change their face drastically, BUT I will likely refer you to another office that is heavier-handed. I think it is very important to mesh with your doctor and have a similar taste in your aesthetic. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and our relationship (or your potential relationship with your doctor) is so much easier if we agree on the desired outcome. If the staff looks overfilled or strange, you might want to reconsider.

Equipment & Technology

The next thing to examine is the technology available for your treatments. Are the lasers the newest and cutting edge on the market? You will pay a tad more for a higher-performance laser, but you will get more bang for your buck. I currently have the Cynosure Vectus for hair removal and I haven’t regretted spending the extra money on that baby once. The treatments are faster, less painful, and more effective. That means you will return to my office for more treatments. I have two Cutera Lasers for rejuvenation and vascular lesions. I have three options for Micro-needling. I carry almost every filler. If a doctor really invests in her business, she will invest in your beauty and skin. Also, not every person is best suited for an individual laser. It is great to have multiple options to create a very customized skincare plan.

Another amazing investment I made in my practice was purchasing three Coolsculpting devices. What does that mean to you? Faster treatments, couples treatments, and more scheduling options. We can treat three areas at once! That gets you out the door and back to life three times faster. When choosing a Coolsculpting provider, make sure the person doing the treatment has attended a Coolsculpting University and check those reviews!

Reviews

Even though earlier I said that reviews cannot give you a lot of information about safety, I do feel they are a good indication of clients’ experiences with a particular Med Spa. It’s unrealistic to expect a Spa to never have a bad review, but the majority of reviews on Yelp, Facebook, and Google should be very positive. Even with bad reviews, it’s good to see if and how the Med Spa responded.
